My direction is how we can use straight lines/linear shapes to create flow and movement.
My first exploration is on hyperbolic paraboloid. The hyperbolic paraboloid is a ruled surface, which means that you can create it using only straight lines even though it is curved.
Examples of hyperbolic paraboloid
The logic behind hyperbolic paraboloid is similar to the parabolic curves using straight lines as shown below.
1. Using the logic of parabolic curve, I construct the 2d curve using grasshopper.
2. By tweeking the value of point x and y, we get 1/2 hyperbolic paraboloid.
3. To get a full hyperbolic paraboloid, I copy and paste the above definition and rotate it.
