The Diploid Lamp is part of a series that explores various repeating patterns inspired by nature such as scales and honeycombs. Diploid is a term used in the field of genetics and refers to an organism or cell having the normal amount of DNA per cell. For example the diploid number in humans is 46. Using parametric modeling, scripting, and digital fabrication, the light’s geometry is made up of the basic unit of triangles with a hollow triangular center to allow the light to pass through.
This lamp is one of many examples of how the amalgamation of generative design and basic geometry can result in very beautiful and fluid forms.
