Beijing National Aquatics Center – PTW, Arup & China State Construction and Engineering Corporation (CSCEC)

The design of the Beijing National Aquatics Center (also known as the water cube) was derived from the Weaire–Phelan structure where Arup used MicroStation, MicroStation TriForma, Bentley Structural, and Bentley’s generative design technology to help develop and bring this concept to be structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing.

Using this software,  it gives designers and engineers new ways to explore alternative building forms without manually building a detailed design model for each scenario. This also increases efficiency in managing conventional design and documentation.
